royal Mail delivers christmas
The lovely staff from Royal Mail across the Borders region started collecting from all their branches toys, clothing and sweets for Children who find themselves being cared for over the festive period.

The team over at SPPA in Tweedbank collected gifts to go to children over the festive period and we so kind to send over Santa to deliver them!

Glider Album launch
We were delighted to welcome Glider Band who for the second year running raised donations for The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care Service through concerts and album sales.

Instead of sending out Christmas Cards, Port Brae Wealth management decided to donate £500 they would have spent to the team at the Margaret Kerr Unit. December 2024

The team at the Margaret Kerr unit welcomed some of the members from Duns Rotary Group who through various fundraising event including a golf day have raised £2,500.

Hizzy memorial Run
In its 20th year the Hizzy Memorial Run continues to support its local community. The run in memory of motorcyclist Steve ‘Hizzy’ Hislop brings in bikers form all over to take part in the 134 route across the Borders. The year donations collected came to an £1307 and were donated to the Special Care Baby Unit.

Holly Aiton put her brilliant skills to use and attended a local craft fayre to sell her homemade decorations. She raised an amazing £200 for The Difference.

crafty dafties donate
We are are honoured that the Crafty Dafties, a craft group based in Galashiels have given us continued support over the last few years. From blankets to baby hats and knitted toys they always have goodies for us! We are also delighted to have them create our Christmas decorations that are part of our annual Tree of Light campaign.
Liz and charlie give back
Liz McIntosh and Charlie Scott had both found themselves in need of treatment from NHS Borders and wanted to give back to those who had helped them during their illnesses. Following a fundraising day at Dove Court , Peebles where Charlie is a resident and Liz recently retire from as an employee they raised an outstanding £635.

80’s party fundraiser
For the second year Maria Gray organised a 80’s Party night with fancy dress with dayglo and tracksuits encouraged, games, raffles and the best of the 80’s on repeat. Donations collected £604.10 for The Margaret Kerr Unit and palliatice Care Service.

Woodside plant centre
For the month of August Woodside Plant Centre collected for The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care Service by donating profits from the sale of artwork by artist Marjorie Kerr and from donaions rasied bu local singer Rosie Angus who would perform on the weekneds for visitors. Thank you to all theses ladies for raising £843.45!

chafing the dream team
A group of colleagues from Mental Heath Services wanted to raise money for all mental health services across the Borders took part in the challenging Edinburgh Kiltwalk. After months of training the aptly titled ‘Chafing The Dream’ team completed the walk and raised an incredible £1936! Thank you ladies - definitely earned a wee sit down and a cuppa!

berwickshire charity truck run
for its 3rd year running Berwickshire Charity Truck Run supported The Difference. The Truck Run which bring drivers and trucks from the UK and Europe completes a route taking them across the Borders. We were delighted to accept a cheque for £15,000 towards the Neurology department, Physiotherapy team, Medical Assessment Unit and the Heart Fund. Ovet the last 3 years £67,000 has been donated and we couldn’t be more grateful! September 2024
running for ruth
Jonah Birkett and family decided to take part in this years Great North Run in memory of a beloved family member Ruth. Ruth had been cared for in The Margaret Kerr Unit and from the loving support Ruth and her family received they wanted to give back and raise funds in her memory. The training on cold and wet days and nights paid off and the team completed the run and raised an £1385.

Oregon Timber Frame in partnership with Barratt Developments PLC Charities Foundation allow employees to nominate local charities to receive donations. We were delighted to be chosen and received £1,500 to The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care Service. August 2024
Kielder water fundraiser
Peter, Michelle, Laura & Euan made the team at ITU’s day when they visited with a donation of £1780 and some lovely goodies for the staff as well! The group took on the gruelling 26 mile challenge as a way to give back after a family member had received excellent care from the unit. July 2024
andison Family
Following the passing John Andison, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, donations collected in his memory where passed on the Border Cancer Services in honour of the care and support given to him during his illness. The family handed in £660 in his name.

Alex runs a marathon!
One of our very own Alex Skippon from our Finance team took part in the Edinburgh marathon for the Difference. After completing the challenge he raised £410! Thank you Alex - we hope the feet don’t hurt too much!

rotary borderlands
A group from Rotary Borderlands were welcomed into the Childrens Ward and came with lots of goodies! Armed with Easter eggs, and activity packs for the children the also made a very special donation of 2 VR Headsets. The headsets are great for entering users with games but can also be used as a sensory device when children are receiving treatments. Thank you so much for these brilliant devices!

jed-forest rfc rugby sevens
The Young family came into the Scpecial Care Baby Unit with a cheque for £300 on behalf of all the team at Jed-Forest RFC. Player Gregor Young and his family know first-hand the excellent work the team does and nominated the unit to receive this donation which came from Jed-Forest competing in a Rugby Sevens Tournament.

jockuleles perform for charity
Local band The Jockuleles put on a special gig to raise funds for Border Cancer Services. The night was a huge success and £712.50 was raised. May 2024
hawick high school
A group of s6 pupils from Hawick High School have been hard at work raising donations for The Difference. After holding candy canes sales, selling scones and auctioning off a signed Darcy Graham rugby ball they raised a brilliant £205.40!

johnstons of elgin charity cycle
The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care were thrilled to welcome a group from Johnstons of Elgin who came with a cheque for £3500. The group took on a 230 mile cycling challenge from Elgin to Hawick Service last summer and had already donated £3501.50. This donation came from Johnstons of Elgin who very kindly matched what the group had already raised! April 2024

The wonderful team at the Scottish Public Pension Agency in Tweedbank kindly sent along the Easter bunny to deliver Easter eggs and other goodies for the Children’s ward. March 2024

The Liddesdale Performing Arts Society put on the ultimate Murder Mystery night! The budding investigators had a great time and raised £810 for The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care Service. March 2024
Lisa brown faces the shave
Former NHS Borders employee Lisa Brown decided not to let her recent cancer diagnosis take over. She decided to turn the situation into something more positive and raise money for Border Cancer Services. Lisa who had very long hair cut it all off and raised £1264.48 whilst also collecting her hair to donate to The Little Princess Trust. Thank you Lisa - you are amazing!

Plexus Charitable Foundation allows employees to nominate charities in their local community. Emma Wichary had put forward The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care Service after her sister-in-law sadly fell ill and needed the services. We were touched to welcome Emma and a donation for £2200.
